You would think finding out your dad is in a music video with Taylor Swift would be the coolest thing ever! However, Ethan Hawke’s youngest daughters weren’t as hyped after all…
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday, the 53-year-old actor talked about the cameo he made with longtime pal and Dead Poets Society co-star Josh Charles in the video for the pop star’s new single Fortnight. He revealed no one knew about his work on the project before it came out as he had to sign a nondisclosure agreement. Not even his younger kids — 15-year-old Clementine Jane Hawke and 12-year-old Indiana Hawke — knew!

But once they did find out, they… were less than thrilled. Why? Like any fan, they wanted to be the ones Taylor called! Ethan said:
“You tell my teenage daughters that I’m going to meet Taylor, and everybody at school’s gonna know. When they did find out, the look on their face was one of profound disappointment. ‘Don’t pay attention to my dad. My dad’s an idiot. You should be calling me!’ You know?”
Host Stephen Colbert understood the situation, as he’s “been there” before too! The Sinister star continued:
“Taylor belongs to them, you know? I can’t have that on them. So I had to low-key it.”
Everything is less cool when it’s associated with your parents, right?
Well, Tay Tay now knows she needs to call the right Hawkes for her next project! LOLz! Watch the interview (below):
