However, there’s one billionaire, who is one of the biggest sharks in the real estate sector but rarely makes his way into the media spotlight. We are talking about Gurgaon’s richest man, Kushal Pal Singh, who has a net worth of Rs. 1.08 lakh crores and is the person who made DLF (Delhi Land and Finance) India’s biggest real-estate giant with his vision and business acumen. 

Despite having such a staggering net worth, KP Singh rarely dominates the headlines, as he prefers to keep a low profile. It was back in 2008 when Kushan Pal Singh was ranked as the 8th richest person in the world in Forbes 2008. Not only this, as per Forbes’ India Rich List 2019, KP Singh is the 25th richest Indian in the world. Talking about the billionaire’s background, he was born on November 15, 1931, in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr.

The real estate tycoon, Kushal Pal Singh belonged to a reputed family, as his father, Chaudhary Mukhtar Singh worked as a reputed lawyer in Bulandshahr. Due to his commendable work as a lawyer in Bulandshahr, CM Singh became a respected and well-known figure in Uttar Pradesh. The billionaire reportedly completed his schooling in Bulandshahr, and for his higher studies, KP Singh went to Meerut College to pursue graduation in science.


For post-graduation, Kushal Pal Singh went to the UK and did aeronautical engineering, and it was when he was then subsequently selected to the Indian Army by the British Officers Services Selection Board, UK. According to multiple reports, in 1951, KP Singh started his military career after he was commissioned into Deccan Horse. For the unversed, the Deccan Horse, aka, 9 Horse is one of the most decorated armoured regiments of the Indian Army.

As per multiple sources, Kushal Pal Singh joined the Indian army in 1951, and it was in 1961 that he joined DLF Limited, which was started by his father-in-law, Chaudhary Raghvendra Singh.


After joining the company, KP Singh purchased some land and utilised it to build DLF City in Gurgaon. Apart from building DLF City in Gurgaon, KP Singh is also renowned for making a series of earthquake-resistant homes, shopping malls, recreational facilities, and workplaces.

For the unversed, Kushal Pal Singh got married to Indira Singh a few decades back. The couple welcomed three children, two daughters, Pia Singh and Renuka Talwar, and a son, Rajiv Singh, after some years of their marriage. However, unfortunately, in 2018, Indira Singh passed away after she lost her battle against cancer. As per multiple reports, KP Singh retired at the age of 90 and handed the charge of DLF to his son, Rajiv Singh.

It was in February 2023, when in a conversation with CNBC TV-18, Kushal Pal Singh opened up about falling in love again after the painful demise of his wife, Indira Singh. The billionaire revealed that before his wife’s death, she told him not to waste his life. Not only this, KP Singh even revealed the name of his new-found love and her name was Sheena. Sharing how Sheena always pushed him to do more in life, the billionaire admitted that she keeps him on his toes.

When Kushal Pal Singh opened up about falling in love after the unfortunate demise of his wife, Indira Singh, the business tycoon received a major thumbs-up from most of the people.
