Nita Ambani Assures Her Parents ‘ Not Giving Away Your Daughter’

Radhika Merchant's Kanyadan: Nita Ambani Assures Her Parents 'Not Giving Away Your Daughter'

Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani hosted a dreamy wedding ceremony for their youngest son, Anant Ambani and his lady love, Radhika Merchant. While every function and ritual of the wedding has been etched in our hearts, it is the kanyadan ritual of Radhika Merchant that is going viral. Nita Ambani not only welcomed her youngest bahu into the family but also assured Radhika’s parents that they had gained another son and had not given away their daughter.

Nita Ambani explains the meaning of Kanyadaan

Just before Radhika Merchant’s Kanyadaan ceremony, Nita Ambani took the microphone to explain the meaning to guests who had attended an Indian wedding for the first time, including Kim Kardashian, Boris Johnson, John Kerry, and Lee Jae-Yong, among others. She kept her words as simple as she could so that the world could understand the importance of the most special wedding ritual in a Hindu marriage: Kanyaadan.

Nita Ambani revealed how a daughter is considered ‘Laxmi’ in Hindu culture and how abundance follows where there is the daughter. She further highlighted that giving away a daughter is not easy, and no one can ever give away their daughter, who is a piece of their heart. Further in her speech, Nita Ambani assured Radhika Merchant’s parents, Viren Merchant and Shaila Merchant, that they are not giving away their daughter but rather gaining a son. She said:

“My dearest Shaila and Viren today you are not giving away your daughter to us, rather gaining a son and a  new family. Our dearest Anant belong as much to you as our dearest Radhika belongs to us.”

Nita Ambani further promised her choti bahu‘s parents that their daughter will be protected as Anant’s soulmate and loved as Isha Ambani, Anand Piramal, Shloka Mehta and Akash Ambani’s sister. She was quoted as saying:

Mukesh and I promise to you that Radhika will always be protected as our daughter, cheristed as Anant’s soulmate, loved as Isha, Anand, Shloka and Akash’s sister. And adored as the most doting kaki and mami to Prithvi, Aadiya, Krishna and Veda. My dearest Radhika with open hearts we welcome you as the youngest bahu of our family as Mrs. Radhika Anant Ambani.

What is kanyadaan?

In Hinduism, Kanyadaan is considered the biggest daan. For those who don’t know, Kanya means daughter, and daan means to donate or give away. In our vedas, Kanyadan purifies the brides’ parents sins. It is also a ritual in which the groom is told what he is going to have is the most precious ‘gift’.

What do you think about Nita Ambani’s beautiful promise to her daughter-in-law, Radhika’s parents?
