Xbox has introduced a set of new accessibility features and devices aimed at making gaming more inclusive for players with disabilities. Among the highlights are three new accessible devices: the Xbox Adaptive Joystick, the 8BitDo Lite SE 2.4G Wireless Controller, and the ByoWave Proteus Controller. These devices were developed in close collaboration with the gaming and disability communities to ensure they meet the diverse needs of players.
The Xbox Adaptive Joystick is designed as an affordable, singular joystick that works alongside the Xbox Adaptive Controller. It includes four input buttons on the front, a standard Xbox thumbstick, and two additional buttons that replicate the bumper and trigger functions found on traditional controllers. This device allows for greater flexibility and customization, ensuring that players with various mobility challenges can enjoy gaming.
Additionally, Xbox has introduced 3D printable files for customizable thumbstick toppers, offering six different designs tailored to various dexterity levels and grip strengths. These toppers can be 3D printed and adapted to individual needs, providing a more personalized gaming experience.
Another notable addition is the 8BitDo Lite SE 2.4G Wireless Controller, which features low-resistance buttons and highly sensitive joysticks. It is designed specifically for players with limited mobility, with all buttons easily accessible on the top of the controller.
The ByoWave Proteus Controller, known for its modular design, allows players to fully customize their controller setup. This device, built with “snap and play” parts, offers unparalleled flexibility, enabling users to adjust the controller to fit their physical needs and gaming preferences.
These initiatives reflect Xbox’s ongoing commitment to accessibility, demonstrating a significant step forward in creating an inclusive gaming environment for all players.
