Abu Dhabi Students Embrace AI Summer Programs

Abu Dhabi has embarked on a significant educational initiative, enrolling 2,400 students in its AI Summer Programs, focusing on the advanced field of prompt engineering. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) in partnership with 42 Abu Dhabi, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), and Majalis Abu Dhabi, the programs are designed for students from grades 9 through 12 across public, private, and charter schools.

These programs aim to equip the next generation with the skills needed to reshape industries through artificial intelligence. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of generative AI, ethical considerations, AI concept development, and career path exploration. His Excellency Mubarak Hamad Al Mheiri, Undersecretary at ADEK, emphasized the commitment to preparing a generation ready for the evolving AI landscape, highlighting the partnerships with leading institutions to provide top-tier AI training.

The Generative AI and Prompt Engineering Bootcamps, integral parts of the summer programs, offer hands-on learning experiences designed to enhance problem-solving skills. These bootcamps are available in two formats: a full-day bootcamp held in six schools across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, and a two-hour session held in 28 locations in collaboration with Majalis Abu Dhabi. The full-day sessions focus on advanced techniques such as fine-tuning language models, while the shorter sessions provide a customized learning experience through discussions and interactive group activities.

Additionally, a five-day summer program tailored for grade 11 students and above is conducted in collaboration with MBZUAI. This program delves into various AI applications, including film production, generative AI, responsible AI, and sustainability research projects. These workshops are led by MBZUAI’s esteemed faculty and alumni, providing students with insights from experts in the field.

ADEK is also preparing four UAE Nationals for the inaugural International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI). This competition, aimed at high school students, seeks to inspire and challenge young minds to explore AI’s potential. Two MBZUAI students are mentoring the team, ensuring they are well-prepared for the event in Bulgaria from August 9-15.

This initiative reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to fostering innovation and preparing its youth for a future dominated by artificial intelligence, ensuring they are equipped to drive meaningful global change.
