A significant step in global energy cooperation has been marked by a 15-year sales and purchase agreement between ADNOC, Abu Dhabi’s state-owned energy company, and PETRONAS, Malaysia’s national oil and gas corporation. This strategic partnership focuses on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from the Ruwais LNG project, with deliveries slated to commence in 2028.
The deal, unveiled during the ADIPEC energy conference in Abu Dhabi, represents ADNOC’s effort to strengthen its lower-carbon energy portfolio. PETRONAS is set to receive approximately 1 million tonnes of LNG annually, sourced directly from Ruwais. This arrangement aligns with ADNOC’s broader goals of energy diversification and bolstering international partnerships, with over seven million tonnes of Ruwais LNG capacity already committed to global clients.
This contract also underscores a deepening relationship between the UAE and Malaysia in the energy sector, particularly as both nations pursue initiatives aimed at sustainability and decarbonization. ADNOC has positioned the Ruwais LNG project as a cornerstone of its energy transition strategy, reflecting a commitment to integrating innovative, low-emission solutions within its operations.
Beyond the immediate scope of this agreement, ADNOC continues to expand its energy footprint with investments in local manufacturing and advanced technological solutions. The company’s “in-country value” (ICV) program has been instrumental in channeling AED 187 billion ($51 billion) into the UAE economy since its inception in 2018, creating employment opportunities and supporting local businesses. Simultaneously, ADNOC has awarded contracts for groundbreaking seismic surveys and new carbon management initiatives, highlighting its forward-looking approach to energy exploration and environmental responsibility.
