Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has been constantly in the news for the last few months. The film has been mostly making headlines for its casting of Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in the roles of Lord Ram, Sita and the demon Raavan. There have been other actors too who have been linked with the project. However, there has been no official announcement on the casting of the film. In fact, it is also believed that Nitesh Tiwari has never made an announcement about Ramayana. But that is not true.
“Apart from Ram and Raavan, every character in Ramayana has something to say,” said Nitesh Tiwari once on the epic
In a press release sent on behalf of him in July 2019, Ramayana was officially announced. As per that announcement, the film was to be directed by Nitesh Tiwari and Ravi Udyawar. For the unversed, the latter directed the Sridevi starrer Mom. The movie was supposed to be a trilogy and was supposed to be produced by Madhu Mantena, Allu Aravind and Namit Malhotra. It was also mentioned that the estimated budget of the film was Rs. 500 crores and that the movie has been a work-in-progress for three years.
The press release also contained Nitesh Tiwari’s comments on Ramayana and why it holds a special significance in his life. Recalling his childhood memory of Ram Lila, Tiwari said, “I went with my father and brother to the Ramlila every year and though we all knew the story, it still evoked the same emotions in us when Sita was kidnapped or Raavan’s effigy burnt.”
Speaking about the character of Ram, Tiwari said, “He was an ideal leader, husband, father and son. With time, I’ve realized that it’s easy for us to be a good father but so difficult to be a good son. It’s made me a better son to my elderly father, and I can only hope that my son will also take good care of me.”
Sharing the reason for making the film as a trilogy, Tiwari said, “Apart from Ram and Raavan, every character, be it, Sita, Lakshman or even Hanuman, has something to say, which is why we are telling the story in three parts.”
There have been reports about Ramayana going on floors today with Nitesh Tiwari, Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash. Let’s wait and watch whether the makers announce anything officially about the shoot.
