Since their 2018 debut under KQ Entertainment, ATEEZ has become an unstoppable force. They’ve consistently topped global charts, experimented with diverse musical styles, and proven their ability to connect with audiences worldwide. Now, after a period of self-discovery and triumph, the members embark on a new quest, their hearts awakened by exciting possibilities.

Released on May 31, 2024, GOLDEN HOUR: Part 1 marks the beginning of this new musical journey. Notably, Hongjoong and Mingi contributed to the songwriting for all tracks. The EP has already achieved remarkable success, topping iTunes charts in over 26 countries, with the music video surpassing 12 million views within a day.

1. GOLDEN HOUR
‘Golden Hour’ is an introduction track for this EP. The track is short and sung entirely in English. It prepares the listeners for what is about to come in the EP. The music is minimal, has snippets of random conversations with a soft humming vocalization that exudes a comforting softness for the words spoken.

2. BLIND
Blind’ sees a rush of Latin pop influences right from the start. The lyrics incorporate some Spanish words which adds to the Latin feel of the song. The progression towards the chorus amps up the energy, especially with reverbing beats layered with harmonica.

3. WORK
Work’ is the title track of this EP and also has a music video. This track talks about constantly hustling and moving ahead to have the life one wants. In the music video, we see the members working different types of jobs to “make that money, make purse”. The song sports classic ATEEZ charm with an energetic layering of hip hop and Latin beats. San participated in creating the choreography for the song.

4. EMPTY BOX
‘Empty Box’ is a soothing ballad that carries with it tones of heartbreak and nostalgia. This bilingual track is a somber rendition enriched with low register breathy vocals of the members. What makes this song truly universal is that the song can apply to any relationship. Hongjoong and Mingi’s rap verses blend well in this track. ‘Empty Box’ is reminiscent of the ballads we used to have in K-pop until a while ago. There is a cinematic touch to it without being loud.

5. SHABOOM
After moving on in ‘Empty Box’, now we have a fun reggae pop number ‘Shaboom’ where the members cannot wait to party. The song finds its way to techno and EDM laced chorus as it progresses.

6. SIREN
For an EP that is all about new starts, hard work and confidence, what better conclusion than ‘Siren’? ‘Siren’ sits with ATEEZ’s early songs which were full of energy and unabashed confidence like ‘HALA HALA’ or ‘Answer’. The track possesses potential to be one of the most loved B-side tracks of the group. There is confidence, there is grace, and there is abundant energy in this EDM and trance laced track from start to finish.

With this EP, ATEEZ signal a transition in their musical journey. Golden Hour: Part 1 marks a pivotal shift in their musical identity. Their previous works chronicled a captivating journey of self-discovery, where they experimented with various genres and dance styles. This exploration nurtured their artistry, allowing them to blossom into well-rounded performers. The album seamlessly blends vocals, lyrics, and an eclectic mix of beats, showcasing ATEEZ’s growth and their refusal to be confined to a single sound.

The very title, “Golden Hour,” serves as a powerful metaphor. It signifies the culmination of a previous era, a golden sunset marking the end of one chapter. With the sun setting, a new horizon emerges, brimming with possibilities. This EP is just the beginning of ATEEZ’s next adventure, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating the uncharted territory that lies ahead.
