Shah Rukh Khan is a true king of hearts, and his impeccable contributions to the film industry needs no introduction. After starting off his career in showbiz through a television series, he went on to carve a superhit career in films, establishing himself as the reigning superstar for decades. Over the years, he has been associated with a number of other artists. While most of them have only good experiences to share speaking about SRK, there were some who took some time to understand the superstar. And Deven Bhojani has been one of them.
Deven Bhojani says he heard about Shah Rukh Khan being full of himself
In a podcast interaction with Laksh Maheshwari, Deven Bhojani remembered his working experience with Shah Rukh Khan. The actor said he met the superstar right after his film, Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar, and trusted the rumours about Shah Rukh being full of himself and having an attitude problem. He also mentioned hearing anecdotes about SRK not having said nice things about senior actors like Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan. In his words:
“This was right after Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. I was cast as Shah Rukh Khan’s friend. I’d heard about him, that he was this new kid on the block and he had an attitude. I’d also heard that he’d said some not-so-nice things about Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan in interviews.”

Deven recalls his ice-breaking moment with Shah Rukh Khan
Continuing with his line of thought, Deven then talked about the first time that he communicated with Shah Rukh Khan, and remarked how initially, he was hesitant to introduce himself to the former. He thought that SRK would behave pricey and would not be interested in getting introduced to him. However, it was SRK who took the first move and came towards Deven, thereby dispelling all his apprehensions. He narrated:
“On the first day, I went and introduced myself to the other actors, but I was hesitant about introducing myself to Shah Rukh. What if he said, ‘So what?’ when I told him who I was? So I kept to myself. I looked back, and it was Shah Rukh. He said, hi, I’m Shah Rukh. I said ‘You were so good in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’.”

Deven talks about crossing paths with SRK again in Dunki
Moving forth in the conversation, Deven mentioned that he crossed paths with Shah Rukh Khan again after years, when they both starred in the film, Dunki. Expressing how the former was warm to him, Deven expressed how Shah Rukh started referring to him as ‘Deven sir’ and not just ‘Deven’, which he used to do earlier. Adding how he needed to remind SRK about their friendship, Deven said:
“He was so warm again. We reminisced about the old days. On the first day, we would address each other as ‘Shah Rukh’ and ‘Deven,’ but on the second day, I noticed that he had started calling me ‘Deven Sir.’ I asked him why he was doing that. He said, ‘The whole unit is addressing you as Deven Sir. I can’t be the only person calling you Deven.’ I told him that he didn’t need to do that because we’re old friends. I wasn’t calling him ‘Shah Rukh Sir’ either. I was calling him ‘Shah Rukh.’ He was so warm.”
When Deven Bhojani talked about getting typecasted as a comedian
Deven Bhojani is one of the most notable faces in Indian television, who is best remembered for shows like Malgudi Days, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Baa Bahoo Aur Baby among many others. Due to his slightly overweight figure, the actor has predominated the screen space with mostly comic characters, which made him get easily typecasted as a comedian. Previously, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, he talked about the same and revealed that on the contrary, he has no regrets about it. He asserted his belief of being one of the few chosen ones who can ace comedy well.
