Vinod Rawat’s directorial debut Pushtaini, explores the difficulties of a middle-class family and thrives on a father-son connection that isn’t so pleasant. Rajkummar Rao will be seen doing a cameo in Pushtaini.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Vinod Rawat revealed that and Rajkummar Rao are very close to each other. He sid, “We have a very close friendship, and I feel like I am almost a brother to him. We both used to do theatre together in Delhi, and at that time, we were the only two boys in that bracket; the rest were much older and became very close to us. We were often sent to get permissions and handle various tasks. We spent a lot of time together. Later, he got admission to a Film Institute, while I decided to continue with theatre and eventually move to Bombay. Six months later, he came back and placed an application form in front of me, urging me to fill it out. After watching a film from the institute, I was astounded. I said, “What kind of cinema is this, my friend? This is incredible. The things they do are amazing.”

He further added, “He supported me that these are the things you have to do, den in Bombay he helped me. Now this process is from there. This is the biggest part, that I am here today, Rajkumar Rao has a big hand in it. And we actually from theatre times till FTI. We used to act all the time, do team work, even when he came to Bombay, and when I came after him, we used to discuss his scripts, discuss his performances, this series of ours continues till today.”

He praised Rajkummar Rao and said, “When I finished the script for Pushtaini, I felt it was my responsibility to go to Rajkummar Rao ji first. I had never considered him for a cameo because it wasn’t my final draft, just a rough one. However, he himself said, ‘Vinod, I am doing this role.’ I was deeply emotional and told him, Raju, I don’t have any money yaar. He just He replied, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll just take a lot of hugs from you.’ He is a very good soul who genuinely wants to support people who can achieve something good with him and help them move forward.”

On the work front, Vinod already has other projects in the works, including a second feature film, which he plans to shoot in Uttarakhand with local actors. For Vinod, the mountains are beckoning, and the storyteller in him must get moving.
