Two prominent names in the South Indian film industry, Rana Daggubati and Dulquer Salmaan, have joined forces for a new project titled Kaantha. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, this film is set in 1950s Madras (now Chennai) and promises to blend artistic storytelling with innovative filmmaking techniques.

To officially launch this highly anticipated collaboration, a puja ceremony was held in Hyderabad, organized by Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media and Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. Photos from the event were shared on social media, with a caption that read: “Introducing #KAANTHA, an epic collaboration between Rana Daggubati and Dulquer Salmaan. Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films bring you a story that merges artistic storytelling with innovative filmmaking. The puja is complete, and we can’t wait to start rolling!”
Celebrating With Tradition
The launch event for Kaantha was attended by several notable figures from the South Indian film industry. Rana Daggubati’s uncle, veteran actor Venkatesh Daggubati, performed the ceremonial clap, marking the start of the project. Venkatesh was joined by his wife Miheeka Bajaj and his father, Suresh Babu, who was also present at the event.
The ceremony had a traditional flair, with all attendees dressed in traditional attire. Along with the Daggubati family, other prominent names in attendance included producers and Venky Atluri, the director of Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming film Lucky Baskhar. The ceremony drew excitement from fans, with many taking to social media to express their anticipation for the film. One fan wrote, “All the very best,” while others eagerly commented, “Waiting for this.”
A Special Milestone for Suresh Productions
As part of the press note released by the team, Rana Daggubati expressed his pride in working on Kaantha, noting that it holds particular significance. “Kaantha is the ideal film to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Suresh Productions and mark the new beginning with Spirit Media,” he said.
Dulquer Salmaan also shared his enthusiasm, praising the film’s narrative depth and potential for creative exploration. He described Kaantha as “a brilliantly layered story that delves into the depths of human emotions.”
Set against the backdrop of societal transformation in 1950s Madras, Kaantha promises to offer a nuanced look at human interactions during a pivotal period in history. The film will feature Bhagyashri Borse and Samuthirakani in key roles alongside the lead actors. According to reports, the first look of the film is expected to be released soon. Fans can look forward to Kaantha being available in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
