Rupali Ganguly Reveals She Signed TV Roles Initially Only To Admit Her Father In A Better Hospital

Rupali Ganguly is now counted amongst one of the highly bankable actresses in the television industry. However, once she had her fair share of struggles to make this prominent phase in her life. Now, she opened up about the same. For the unversed, Rupali made her acting debut with the television serial, Sukanya, premiered in 1998. But her role as ‘Monisha Sarabhai’ in the 2004 drama, Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai made her a household name. However, after giving birth to her firstborn, she had taken a sabbatical for seven years. She returned to acting with the show, Anupamaa, making her one of the highest-paid TV actresses.

Rupali Ganguly reveals why she was treated like an ‘outcast’ when she started doing TV serials

In an interview with CNBC, Rupali Ganguly opened up about her struggling days. The actress mentioned how she was looked down on for being an ‘outcast’ when she started doing television serials. However, she didn’t care about all those things as she had to look after her family. Rupali said:

“Television was again, struggling days. I had to run the home, so whatever work came along, I took it. It was looked down upon, especially in the Bengali community. So, you’re kind of an outcast. People would feel sorry for me because I was doing television, and I didn’t care because at that time, we needed to run the house”

In the same conversation, Rupali shared how she never had any dream or ambition other than to look after her father. Thus, to do the same, she has no regrets about choosing even small television roles at that time. The actress mentioned how she signed television roles without negotiating the money to admit her father, Anil Ganguly, to a better hospital. She continued:

“I’ve never had ambitions. I’ve never had dreams. My thing was I didn’t want my father to be in a municipal hospital. I wanted him to be in a good hospital like Leelavati. For that, it was imperative that I work. I think me, even my brother, there’s so much respect for whatever little we get that we want to make the maximum out of it. I would do anything for my Papa; he is my inspiration, he is my god, and he still is, of course.”


Rupali Ganguly expresses her gratitude for having a wonderful journey in the television world

At the end of the conversation, Rupali expressed her gratitude towards her wonderful journey in the television world. She also mentioned how her father, who was also once a famous filmmaker, never assisted her with contact during her struggling days. The actress added how, in a short period of time, she could easily etch a place in the hearts of her fans, and added:

“And in that short time that you get in television, you perform an excellent scene where people call you up and where, you know, it’s like portals are writing about it, ‘What a performance! What a performance’. That is my achievement. That is my win. It is not an easy industry.”

When Rupali Ganguly praised her husband, Ashwin K Verma for being her support system

Earlier, during an interview with News18, Rupali talked about how she successfully returned to television after taking a small sabbatical after her son’s birth. She praised her husband, Ashwin K Verma, for the same and mentioned how he was her pillar of strength. Rupali mentioned that it couldn’t have been possible for her to return to her career without his help, as he took early retirement and shifted from America to India.
