Doosan Enerbility, a leading South Korean energy solutions provider, has secured a significant contract to supply key equipment for Saudi Arabia’s largest combined-cycle power plant project. The deal, valued at approximately 150 billion won (US$114 million), marks a major win for Doosan Enerbility in the expanding Saudi Arabian energy market.
Under the agreement signed with SEPCO-3, a Chinese engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company, Doosan Enerbility will provide two 650-megawatt (MW) steam turbines and generators for the Qassim 1 and Taiba 1 power plants. These facilities, located respectively about 200 kilometers north of Jeddah and northwest of Riyadh, will boast a combined capacity of 3,600 MW upon completion in 2027.
The project is being developed by a consortium consisting of ACWA Power, a leading Saudi Arabian developer, operator, and investor in power generation, desalination, and related water treatment plants, and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), the country’s national electric utility company.
This contract win for Doosan Enerbility highlights the growing demand for efficient and reliable power generation solutions in Saudi Arabia. The kingdom is embarking on an ambitious plan to expand its power generation capacity to meet the rising electricity needs of its population and burgeoning industries. Combined-cycle power plants, which combine gas and steam turbines to generate electricity, offer high efficiency and lower emissions compared to traditional power plants, making them an attractive option for Saudi Arabia.
Doosan Enerbility’s steam turbines and generators are known for their advanced technology and reliability. The company has a proven track record of supplying equipment for power plants around the world, and this latest contract further strengthens its position as a global leader in the energy solutions sector.
The successful deal with SEPCO-3 is expected to pave the way for further cooperation between Doosan Enerbility and Saudi Arabian companies in the future. Doosan Enerbility’s expertise in power generation technology, coupled with Saudi Arabia’s focus on infrastructure development, presents exciting opportunities for collaboration on upcoming energy projects in the kingdom.
This project also signifies the growing role of South Korean companies in the global energy sector. Doosan Enerbility’s involvement in Saudi Arabia’s largest combined-cycle power plant project demonstrates the competitiveness and technological prowess of South Korean energy solutions providers on the international stage.
